Easter Sunday is coming. This is such a neat time to reflect and celebrate the heart of our faith. Two songs that I especially enjoy taking in at this time of year are Carman's "Sunday's On The Way" and "This Blood." One will have you hoppin' and the other will make you stop and reflect. Check it out... There is no ABF this Easter Sunday.
Last Sunday's ABF Recap: Science - An Affirmation of Faith The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. There has always been a tension between Science and Religion, but over the last couple of generations, there has been an all-out assault on Religion by Science. The goal on Sunday morning was not to engage in debate. Instead, the focus was to point out that there are many, many examples of science affirming what we believe as Christians! God's fingerprints are all over nature, life and the world of science! Christians ought not be made to feel inferior because they believe that God created all that we can see. (In fact, it's a smaller "leap of faith," in my estimation, to believe in creationism than to believe in macro-evolution.) The Cambrian Explosion, Michael Behe's Mousetrap, fetal development, DNA, and good, old-fashioned observation were used to see God behind science and nature. The Scientific Method is built upon the Observable and the Repeatable. Neither Creation nor Evolution is observable or repeatable; they each require some measure of faith. A philosophical angle is taken by everybody in this discussion. I believe everyone would acknowledge the Creator after observing nature... if in acknowledging Him that wouldn't also have major, life-changing implications for all of our lives. Most people know that if they recognize the Creator, they'll have to ask themselves some other big life questions. So it is important to look at the evidence in an intellectually honest manor, ask the questions that need to be asked, and apply the answers that need to be applied. (most significantly: There is a Creator, He is LORD, and we are to serve Him.) Having done this, there is no reason to be ashamed of our faith! God has revealed himself in many ways through nature and science, and in very, very cool ways. Be confident in your faith! Want more information? Check out these sources:
*The two video collections mentioned here, produced by the BBC, do not approach nature with the lens of intelligent design. Planet Earth is not terribly agenda-driven, Blue Planet is somewhat agenda-driven. However, it is impossible to view these episodes and not be awed and impressed with the creativity and imagination of God. To close this pre-Easter Update out, here's a great Keith Green apperance along with a Sandi Patty selection. Again, an uplifting number and a sobering number. Have a great end to your week.
